Kimono as Art: The Landscapes of Itchiku Kubota
 (San Diego)
1 Nov 2008 - 4 Jan 2009
The Landscapes of Itchiku Kubota at San Diego Museum of Art celebrates renowned Japanese textile artist and kimono designer, Itchiku Kubota (1917-2003). The main highlight is Symphony of Light, a 30-piece side-by-side kimono presentation depicting the four seasons.

Kubota was known for combining a number of traditional techniques with his unique personal innovations to fashion shimmering, abstract landscapes through layering of dyes and inks on monumentally-scaled kimono. The exhibit also includes a selection of kimono from his Mt Fuji series.
